Vote for one of the Democratic or Republican or None of the Candidates

IndependentPrimary.Com was started by independent political activists from across America to establish and measure the power and impact of independent-minded voters on the presidential election.

We are part of a movement bringing together ordinary Americans who think that the good of the country is more important than the good of the political parties.

Frustrated by the lack of genuine and inclusive dialogue about the issues that are critical to the future of our nation, IndependentPrimary.Com is uniting independent-minded Americans into an organized force to challenge the partisanship and special interest control of policy-making which is endangering our democracy.

We are committed to find a new way of doing politics that is free from the domination of big money, political party bosses and the corporate-owned media.

WHO WE ARE

http://www.independentprimary.com/

What is IndependentVoice.Org?

IndependentVoice.Org is a the California branch of the independent movement.  IndependentVoice.Org is a 501(c)4 political non-profit organization that promotes the visibility and power of the State’s independent voters.  IndependentVoice.Org (formerly called the Committee for an Independent Voice) grows out of a 25-year effort to build a non-ideological political movement at the grassroots to dramatically reorganize the self-serving partisan control of government by the Democrat and Republican Parties.

Who are independent voters?

Independents defy traditional political labels and come from across the political spectrum.  As individuals we hold to a broad range of ideological and political views.  Together, we share an understanding that democratic reform of the political process and of government is the urgent political necessity of the day.

Since 1990 the number of California voters who registered outside the two major parties has doubled to 3.6 million or more than 23% of the electorate.  In the same period the percentage of Democratic party registrants has declined to 42.7% and the percentage of Republican party registrants has declined to 34.6%.   More than 40% of voters younger than 25 are registering as neither Democrat or Republican and independent registration among the Latino population is significantly higher than for whites.

Is IndependentVoice.Org a political party?

No, independents don’t like parties.  IndependentVoice.Org is building a non-party organization of ordinary independent California voters who recognize that the extreme partisanship and political corruption that permeate the political culture must be changed.  We are committed to building a base of independents from the bottom up.  IndependentVoice.org regularly conducts information telephone opinion polls with registered independents to assess their views on important reform issues and political campaigns.

IndependentVoice.Org is affiliated with the Committee for a Unified Independent Party (CUIP), a New York City-based non-profit, non-ideological think tank for the independent political movement.  We work collaboratively with dozens of organizations of independent voters in states across the country, including Independent Texans, Alabama Independent Movement, Coalition of Independent Voters: Massachusetts, Georgia Independent Voters and Independent Pennsylvanians.

How is IndependentVoice.Org funded?

IndependentVoice is a political non-profit 501(c)4 organization. We are funded by individual contributions.  As a political non-profit, contributions to IndependentVoice are not tax deductible.  If you have not yet given a financial contribution to build the independent movement for political reform in California, please follow this link to the donate page.

What other campaigns has IndependentVoice.Org been involved in?

Co-sponsorship of Empowering Democracy Initiative: 2006

IndependentVoice.Org joined the People’s Advocate, TheRestOfUs.org, Mobilizing America’s Youth and the Mexican American Political Association in a right-center-left coalition to sponsor a new redistricting reform initiative.  The effort was designed to pressure state legislators to pass meaningful redistricting reform legislation, which is now pending in the legislature.

Independent Voters for Redistricting Reform: 2005

IndependentVoice.Org played a leading role in the campaign coalition, bringing out the independent vote in support of Proposition 77 on the November, 2005 special election ballot.  Prop 77 did not pass, but the campaign exposed the State’s shameful, anti-democratic, corrupt system of drawing election district lines and sparked a broader movement to end gerrymandering.

Independent Voters for an Open Primary:  2004

IndependentVoice.Org was a key member of the coalition to pass the open primary initiative, Prop 62, leading the statewide campaign to bring out the independent vote.  While Prop 62 received 46% of the vote, 60% of Independents voted yes, demonstrating the potential of independent voters as the engine for political reform.

Let Nader Debate! 2004

Nowhere is the problem of partisanship more visible than in the conduct of the nationally televised presidential debates (sponsored by representatives of the Democrat and Republican parties).  IndependentVoice supported the national campaign to allow Nader to participate in the presidential debates by organizing support throughout California.

Does IndependentVoice.Org endorse candidates?

IndependentVoice.Org endorses candidates for political office -- Democrats, Republicans and Independents -- who exemplify a commitment to an open, inclusive, non-partisan political process.

Ideological issues play no role in any endorsements. As individual independents we have a broad range of opinions on many hot button issues across the political spectrum.  However, It is we who are the engine for political reform.  Independent voters cannot be dismissed as "swing" voters.  We have the opportunity to leverage our growing numbers to vote for candidates who are partnering with independents in support of opening up the political process.

Recent Endorsements:

  • Ron Dellums for Mayor of Oakland:  June, 2006
  • Elena Popp for State Assembly District 45 (Los Angeles):  June, 2006
